On 20th June, Costessey Primary School proudly celebrated Rainbow Day, a vibrant and meaningful event designed to raise awareness about the importance of standing up to homophobic bullying and promoting acceptance from an early age.
The day sent a clear message to our whole school community that everyone is welcome at Costessey.
A key highlight of the day was the creation of our Pride Wall. Every child received a coloured ribbon to tie onto the sports pitch fence, resulting in a beautiful rainbow display. This wall will remain in place as a lasting reminder to all pupils of the importance of inclusion, respect and embracing each other’s differences.
Throughout the day, pupils engaged in a variety of activities tailored to their year groups. Older children explored the history of the Pride movement, learning about key figures who fought for equality and helped shape the laws we have today. They also considered how prejudice still exists in different parts of the world and what we can do in our own community to challenge it.
Younger pupils learned about diverse families and the importance of kindness and acceptance. They discussed how everyone is different and how those differences make us special. The children reflected on how bullying can affect others and what they can do to make school a safe and happy place for all.
Rainbow Day was a joyful and important celebration that reflected our school’s core values. We are proud to champion inclusion and continue working together to ensure every child feels seen, heard and respected.
