Looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community? SOS Bus Norwich is calling on passionate leaders from the local community to step up and help shape the future of a life-saving local service.
Since becoming an independent charity in Autumn 2024, SOS Bus Norwich has been working diligently to build a strong, sustainable future, honouring and continuing the legacy of its 24-year-old life-saving service in Norwich’s night-time economy.
Operating from 9.30pm to 3.30am on selected Friday and Saturday nights, the SOS Bus is a trusted, multi-agency initiative offering vital frontline support in Norwich’s city centre. The service provides a safe space for anyone in need, be it due to injury or illness, emotional distress, vulnerability, or simply an inability to get home safely. The team, comprising dedicated volunteers, paramedics, first responders, and security personnel, responds compassionately to a wide range of complex issues far beyond just managing intoxication.
“This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a service that quite literally saves lives”
Now, as the charity continues to grow, SOS Bus Norwich is actively seeking new trustees to help guide and shape the next stage of its development.
“SOS Bus Norwich is looking for individuals who are passionate about making a genuine difference in their community and who are committed to acting with integrity, working collaboratively as part of a team, and contributing to the charity’s long-term strategic vision. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a service that quite literally saves lives and makes Norwich a safer place for all,” explains Dr Jamie Mather, Chair of Trustees at SOS Bus Norwich.
While board-level experience is welcome, they are particularly keen to hear from those who bring skills and expertise in areas such as fundraising strategy and management, legal and compliance, vehicle operations or logistics, PR and marketing, financial oversight, health and safety, or senior operational leadership, such as experience in CEO, CFO, or COO roles. Ideal candidates will also be confident in offering constructive challenge and critique, and enthusiastic about supporting continuous improvement and learning.
SOS Bus Norwich is committed to building a diverse and inclusive board that reflects the community it serves and strongly encourages applications from individuals who identify as female, BAME, LGBTQ+, and those living with disabilities.
Trustees serve an initial term of three years, with the potential for re-election. The team is especially interested in hearing from those with ambitions to take on future board leadership roles as part of our succession planning strategy.
