Sue Lambert Trust hosts silent disco club night this August in partnership with Gonzo’s raising money to support survivors of sexual violence
New for Norwich this summer, Norfolk charity Sue Lambert Trust is launching a silent disco club night event in partnership with Radio 1 award-winning nightclub, Gonzos.
It takes place on Friday 1st August, from 7pm until midnight, in an inflatable nightclub space, outside The Forum in Norwich.
Tickets are now on sale for this one-of-a-kind event, priced £20 each. Expect a night of world-class club music, a mobile cocktail bar, giant glitterballs and glitter face paints, with the Sue Lambert Trust silent disco club night featuring live sets from Gonzo’s very own DJ’s Lu, Lily Ann and Levi Fruits.
For those who want to dance all evening long, there is also the option for people to sign up to a sponsored five-hour danceathon. All proceeds raised will be used by Sue Lambert Trust to support victims of sexual violence and sexual abuse, funding its specialist counselling and therapy services.
This new event will be very different to a typical club night. Instead of loudspeakers, everyone will be given a pair of wireless headphones, with different DJ sets played out through the headsets on transmitters. It means club- goers can choose which setlist they want to listen and dance to.
Sue Lambert Trust is Norfolk’s leading charity supporting people who have experienced sexual violence or sexual abuse. It provides access to specialist support via its team of professional quality counsellors who deliver 12 months of one-to-one therapeutic support for each client, at no cost to the individual. This counselling enables people to work through their trauma and begin to heal, offering that lifeline of support to almost 600 people in Norfolk last year.
“We’re really excited to launch our silent disco”
Violence against women and girls has been declared a national emergency, and violence against men and boys is also increasing. As a result, Sue Lambert Trust has never been busier, with referrals at an all-time high. It is becoming increasingly difficult for the charity to provide support to everyone who reaches out, due to a combination of swathing funding cuts, rising costs and soaring demand. Its waiting list currently stands at 12 months while the aim is to see people within eight weeks after first reaching out for help. Something the charity is desperately trying to cut back.
Gonzo’s Two Rooms, winners of the Radio 1 award for best dance venue in the UK and Europe, is providing the DJ setlist for the Friday night, joining forces with Sue Lambert Trust to help fundraise and bring people together to show support for victims of sexual violence.
Clive Evans, the charity’s CEO says. “We’re really excited to launch our silent disco and to have secured support from award-winning club Gonzo’s, providing the DJ line up for Friday
“Through our work, we know that many victims stay silent for years, often decades before they find their voice and speak out. When they finally do, we want to be there, to listen, to believe, and to support. The silent disco club night is part of our #StaySilentforSueLambertTrust campaign, which aims to raise both awareness and much-needed funds so that when someone finds their voice, we’re ready to hear it.”
“Throw on some sequins and be part of a feel-good event”
On Saturday 2nd August, the music continues inside the inflatable disco with a daytime family-friendly fundraiser, also outside The Forum, from 10am to 3pm. Each hour throughout the day will feature a different genre of music.
As well as the silent discos, Sue Lambert Trust is planning a silent auction and people can challenge themselves to stay silent for 24 hours too. Raising funds in this way will help the Norfolk charity to provide therapy and counselling for people, when they are ready to speak out.
Clive adds; “The Friday night club event for over 18’s is going to be a brilliant summer’s evening of live DJ sets, with Lu, Lily Ann and Levi Fruits making guest appearances from Gonzo’s Two Room. We really can’t thank them enough for supporting us. And then on Saturday, the daytime disco will feature lots of different types of music to select on your headsets, from dance classics to afro-pop to salsa.
“Throw on some sequins and be part of a feel-good event over the weekend, and one that will deliver real impact here in Norfolk.”
