In February, we shared the story of Andrew Hadley from Taverham, who set out on a 104-mile trek along the Norfolk Coastal Path to raise funds for YMCA Norfolk. His mission: to help fund a counsellor for young people leaving foster care. Now, as his inspiring journey comes to an end, here’s an update on how he’s getting on.
Received from Andrew on Saturday, June 7th:
Six days walking completed, four to go. Today is rest day as I am quite weary. So far I have walked from the YMCA hostel in Kings Lynn to Cromer pier via Hunstanton, Wells and Sheringham – a total of 69 miles, 118,675 steps, 423 miles driving to start and finish points and five bus rides of roughly ten miles each.
I have walked in sun, rain, hail storms, thunder and lightning just missing out on frogs falling out of the sky!
All been jolly good fun, met lots of really interesting people who have been universally friendly. I have given out over 100 YMCA flyers so the word is being spread out the great work they do with young people.
Four days to go, finishing at Hopton-on-Sea on Wednesday around 3.30pm – the weather looks perfect and courtesy of Mark Fitch we are having a BBQ on the beach to celebrate. You are all welcome to join us as several members of the YMCA, my son and a few friends are walking the final ten miles from Caister with me.
I am hopeful that Look East are going to film the finish so do watch the telly at 6.30pm on Wednesday if you cannot make it!
Thanks to your generosity and support, there is now £19,619 net and £23,999 including gift aid that has been transferred to the YMCA from Just Giving – thank you.
If you have yet to sponsor me please visit the Just Giving page, I intend to raise £20,000 net and £25,000 gross so please help me.
To all those of you who have already sponsored me, if there is still a little more you can give it really will be much appreciated, there is so much work to be done.
I shall send another missive at the end of June when the appeal closes, but until then, thank you for your best wishes and support, it really helps when the walking gets hard and gives me the impetus to keep going.
