One of Norfolk’s most established art groups is set to stage an exhibition in North Norfolk.
Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle will show more than 100 artworks by its group alongside six original works by Sir Alfred Munnings at The Handa Gallery in Wells-next-the-Sea.
The exhibition in November will be the group’s 207th outing and will feature new selected artworks and sculptures from members of the group in a variety of mediums, styles and artforms – with artworks for sale.
Paul Zawadzki, Chairman of Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle, said: “I am very much looking forward to seeing the range of work produced by our members, that will be on show. The Handa Gallery is a superb venue and a perfect environment to showcase the diverse talents, artistic skills and professionalism of our membership, and a demonstration that the Circle continues to raise the standards of art appreciation and practice in our region.
“Visitors to the gallery will be treated to a rich variety of artwork – from more traditional landscapes, portraits and still life, to contemporary paintings and abstracts, as well as sculptural pieces – something for everyone! Members of the Circle will be on hand during the exhibition to answer questions and discuss work on show.”
Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle was established in 1885 following Crome & Cotman’s famous Norwich Society of Artists and has included in its membership artists of national and international acclaim such as Sir Alfred Munnings, Edward Seago and Arnesby Brown. It now has more than 200 members.
To honour Sir Alfred’s work, there will be a separate section of works based on the theme of ‘literature’ submitted by members, to reflect Sir Alfred’s love of literature during his lifetime.
At the exhibition, Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle will continue their partnership with Munnings Museum of Art at Dedham, Essex who will display some of Sir Alfred Munnings art and ephemera.
Jenny Hand, Director of Munnings Art Museum, said: “We are always delighted to be working with the Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle. The connections between us date back to 1897 when a young Alfred Munnings joined the Circle to exhibit the pictures which were to get him started on a 60-year career. I am especially thrilled that the theme for the upcoming exhibition at The Handa Gallery is inspired by Munnings’ love of literature, a constant source of ideas for the pictures he created over 120 years ago.”
The exhibition at The Handa Gallery, Wells Maltings will run from Wednesday 6th November to Tuesday 26th November 2024, open from 11am to 4pm daily.
Entry to the exhibition is free at Wells Maltings, Staithe Street, Wells-Next-the-Sea, NR23 1AU.
A VIP event will take place on Friday 8th November at 6pm when artists will be on hand to speak to guests about their work, all are welcome.
Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle always welcomes new members from a wide diversity of genres and experience. The group offers regular events including social gatherings, demonstrations and workshops by professionals and a regular life drawing class as well as two major exhibitions of members’ work each year.
