One of Norfolk’s most popular art groups is set to take over a Norwich venue for 206th exhibition.
Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle will show more than 150 works by its members at The Forum in Norwich this May. The exhibition will feature new selected artworks and sculptures from members of the group in a variety of mediums, styles and artforms – with all artwork for sale.
Sue Willmer, chairman of Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle (NNAC), said: “I am delighted that NNAC will be exhibiting in The Forum, Norwich again this year, this gives our members an excellent opportunity to have their work seen by a much wider and appreciative audience.
“We have found that many regular users of the Forum discover the Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle exhibitions for the first time and often return every year to enjoy our artwork.”
Julie Hodgson, a painter with the group, said: “I have been a keen member of Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle for over fourteen years and have enjoyed every minute, from the monthly demonstrations and workshops to the life drawing group and exhibitions.
“When I was young, I knew I wanted to be an artist. My elder sister was a very big influence on me and continually encouraged me to paint and draw. She would take me out sketching and would set up a still life for us both to paint.
“I had no formal art training and did not start painting seriously until I retired from a long teaching career. Since them I have tried to learn as much as I can and have been on many wonderful art courses and joined painting groups and art societies.
“My favourite painting subjects include busy streets, landscapes and animals. I enjoy a considerable success with my commissioned work, exhibition sales, and my paintings have been bought by clients locally and abroad.”
Julie is one of over 200 members of the groups, whose history is deeply rooted in the county. Established in 1885 following Crome & Cotman’s famous Norwich Society of Artists, the Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle has included treasured national artists such as Alfred Munnings, Edward Seago and Bernard Reynolds in its membership.
The group is always welcoming new members to its groups from a wide diversity of genres and experience. It hosts regular events including social gatherings, demonstrations and workshops by professionals and a regular life drawing class. It holds two major exhibitions of members’ work each year and all members can submit their work for selection.
The exhibition at The Forum will run from Friday 10th May until Friday 17th May, open from 9am to 5pm daily.
There will be an open preview on Friday 10th May from 6pm when artists will be on hand to speak to visitors and guests about their work. All are welcome.
Entry to the exhibition is free.
